PROBLEM

Younger generations favor urban living, challenging Lowe's, traditionally rural-focused, to adapt its business model by reevaluating store locations and product offerings to stay relevant.

SOLUTION

While working on a large interactive project at the Labs, I saw a way to get Lowe's into the high-traffic shopping areas of inner cities with a low overhead, small staff, and zero space needed for product. This is Lowe's Metro.
LEADING THE NEXT GENERATION OF HOME OWNERS

Lowe’s Metro, a compact interactive store serving urban homeowners, offers online product access, quotes, and convenient shipping for renovations. With around 14.4 million housing units in major U.S. metro areas, including a dense New York City population, there's a significant demand for ongoing home maintenance and repairs, whether owned or rented.
Lowe’s Metro offers city residents a physical store with professional staff for convenient home renovation solutions, incorporating virtual design capabilities through AR apps. Placing these stores in high-traffic areas not only enhances Lowe's brand visibility but also ensures its long-term viability as a central hub for comprehensive product and service orders.

WHO DOES THIS SERVE
With Millennials comprising a significant portion of the US workforce and expressing a preference for urban living with its diverse offerings, they are distinct from previous generations. Lowe's must adapt to remain relevant and integral to the lives of these urban-dwelling Millennials.
WHO WE ARE
Lowe's Metro can meet the increasing demand for home upgrades in metropolitan areas, addressing the needs of apartment, townhouse, and condo owners with its expertise in appliance replacements, flooring updates, and renovations.
HOW WE GET THERE
Lowe's faces challenges operating full-sized stores in major cities due to space limitations, overhead costs, and stocking considerations. However, Lowe's Metro is the strategic path to reach a wider customer base and adapt to evolving housing trends, supported by Lowe's Innovation Labs and ample resources.
